In the Smart® Protector range from HCL, each Type number reflects a specific cable geometry — and the Smart Protector 400 Type is configured for the larger, heavier power cable cross-sections that higher-output ESP (Electrical Submersible Pump) installations require. Where the 300 Type handles standard ESP power cables and fibre optics, the 400 Type accommodates the increased cable diameter of higher-capacity ESP power cables in the same low-profile geometry needed to operate within annular clearances across coupling variations on the production string. The dual-function design holds the cable positively against the tubing and protects it from the crushing and abrasion events that occur at coupling points and during run-in operations — the failure modes that cause ESP cable damage before the completion even reaches target depth. Attached permanently with Smart Band or Smart Tie — non-metallic and non-conductive throughout. Four polymer grades address the full downhole chemical and temperature envelope: PA66 for standard profiles, PA12 for long-life subsea and offshore conditions, PK for H2S and hydrocarbon environments, and PPS for elevated-temperature thermal wells and deep-water completions. Applied equally in surface telecommunications and industrial cable management wherever larger-bore, non-conductive cable protection is required.
